Intake Silencer Delete Elbow (04/14/04)

One of the favorite first mods on the WRX has always been the intake silencer hack.  Finally someone came up with an elbow to entirely replace the stock silencer.  It's a simple piece that does the job and allows you to keep the stock piece in tact in case you ever want to return to stock.

This is a pretty simple and basic modification.  First off, remove the triangular shaped air scoop.  Then take the top of the filter box off, disconnecting the MAF sensor and hose clamp.

Then remove the two 12mm bolts that hold the filter box in place, exposing the bolt in the fender wall that keeps the silencer in place.

There is another bolt that holds the silencer in place and it is hidden inside the fender wall.  You'll need to remove the passenger wheel.  Then remove the circled plastic tabs and "peel" the liner back.  Remove the stock silencer and discard.

The replacement elbow is shown on the right.  It eliminates the silencer box, giving you more sound while retaining the stock function.

The new elbow will only be held in by 1 bolt and it's the one you can get at from inside the engine bay.  Bolt the elbow down and then put the liner back in.

From the inside you can't tell the difference.  Put everything back together and you're done.
