Tire Tail & Dalan Hitch (06/19/04)
Going to the track with my WRX was made easier because of all of the cargo space for carrying my race wheels. With the STi, I don't really have the room for all four inside the car. Plus, I don't really want to mess up the interior. The solution to this problem is the Tire Tail. It's an ingenious way of transporting a full set of race wheels to the track. It fits into a receiver hitch and keeps the wheels off the back of the car similar to a hitch mounted bike rack. I picked the Da'lan hitch since it looks like it will clear most aftermarket exhausts.

The hitch mounts to the frame in place of the tow hook on the passenger side and the exhaust bracket on the driver side. | ![]() |

The underside of the bumper needs to be trimmed slightly in order for the hitch to slide up. I used a dremel. |

| The next step is to mount the wheels onto the tire tail and mark positions for the pins that hold the washers in place. You simply drill a 1/4" hole through the tire tail, mount the wheels, slide the washer on, and insert the pin. | ![]() |
