Banks Monster Cat Back Exhaust (08/13/05)

I wasted no time in modifying my new Titan.  Within a few days of buying her, I had researched all of the available bolt-on type cat back exhausts and had settled on the Borla or Banks.  Well, I found a group buy on Club Titan and was able to get tha Banks shipped for $475, which was an awesome deal, thanks to Brian at yournissanparts.com.  The exhaust arrived in a couple of days and I set out to install it in the driveway.

Here is the whole kit from Banks.  It includes the two flanged connections to the 3rd and 4th catalytic converters, the muffler, and the rear tailpipe section.  It also includes hardware and a 5" tip.

Start by putting the rear of the truck on ramps as it will make your life easier.  Disconnect the battery using a 10mm wrench.  Spray the flange connections liberally with PB Spray or Liquid Wrench and then take them off with a 14mm socket or wrench.  I started the removal from the back.

Next, work your way forward.  Be sure to remove the hangers from the frame as you go.  Keep the hanger hardware and the 14mm nuts for the flanges as they will be re-used.

I started the new installation from the front.  Put the two sides of the Y together on the ground and then mate the two flanges to the cats.  Thread the 14mm nuts on loosely for now.  DOn't forget to attach the ground wire on the driver's side flange.

As you will notice when you get this section installed, the hanger will not reach the stock location.  Banks has provided an adapter plate that you bolt the stock hanger onto.  Then bolt the plate into the frame, re-using the stock bolts.

Next install the muffler onto the forward section of pipe.  I highly suggest you put a film of oil on the pipe as well as the inside of the muffler to help the two slide together.  I also put a piece of wood to the rear of the muffler and hammered (deadblow, actually) on the muffler until it was on as far as it could go.  I did not do this at first and when I got the rear section on, I realized the middle hanger was not far enough forward to work.
